I’ve read so many articles lately on how tight the job market is (specifically in IT) and how employers are really struggling to find talent. MSPs are finding it harder to hire in 2022 any talent, let alone what I like to call the “top draft picks”. Here are some MSP hiring tips for 2022.
Top Hiring Picks for MSP
Now, just like in the NFL, there is only one #1 pick. The top draft picks are similar in that everyone wants them. They check the boxes: they have a great attitude, they have that drive, they have the aptitude to learn the new tech and skills. Those picks are HARD TO FIND. It takes time to get through hundreds and thousands of resumes to get to your #1 person. It takes a process to narrow down the thousands to the #1.
There Are No Shortcuts
There are no shortcuts. Not following the process is a recipe for disaster. Just like we don’t want to shortcut a new network implementation, we don’t want to shortcut the screening and hiring process.

Second, you have got to move with a purpose right now.
- Keep up with reviewing resumes throughout the day.
- Send assessments within minutes of viewing a qualified resume.
- Offer interview times all day from 9 am to 6 pm every day.
- Candidates are interviewing at multiple places, so if you want someone, get that final interview scheduled and scheduled quickly.
You cannot wait a week to reach out for a final interview and then wait another week for the interview to take place. More than likely, that person will no longer be available.
Retain Great Employees
Let’s take a step back. Before you even start to look for new people, what are you doing to make sure the good people you have are happy and not leaving? It takes months to get someone up to speed, why lose great people that are already trained and providing value to your company because you are taking them for granted?
Improve Retention Rates
Recognize their efforts, make sure they are happy, stay plugged into the environment your people are working in. Are you doing regular check-ins? Are you making sure they know how they can move up? Is it documented so we have something to reference and help guide your employees?
Don’t forget the small things. Is it someone’s birthday? It takes no time to simply tell them, we aren’t that busy. These are people who spend more time with you and at your company, than they do with their family and friends, we need to remember that. Go the extra mile to keep the good people you have.
